January 2018 "Happy New Year!"
Once again we have grown this past year...in addition to working with Homeschool Students from South Sutter Charter School and Visions, we have added the new Inspire Charter School, Core Placer and welcomed back an old friend, Horizons Instructional School to our Stables. Being Vendors for them is a fulfilling experience and we hope to be a partner with them both for many years to come. Our Horse Husbandry program works well in this environment, and we've had great feedback from past students.
I am happy to say that all of our wonderful lesson horses are still with us...we didn't have to say goodbye to any of them these past two years! We did acquire a new young guy, Reggie. He is a gaited 5 year old Hackney Pony/Morgan cross with a very lovable personality! He's definitely a quality horse that could pull fancy carts, or be an amazing Jumper and somebody's forever horse. He is currently up for sale. We have trained Cody now 8 years old, a warmblood paint cross gelding who is not only a flashy guy but very athletic. We are currently leasing him out to our more advanced students. I also acquired a lovely standardbred gelding named Casey who I gave to one of our Instructors as it was love at first sight for the two of them! Our three oldest residents of HTS, Tony 23, Midnight 23 and Pete at 28 are still going strong...and our beginner riders love them all.
No year goes without changes and 2017 had it's share. Kaitlynn is still with us doing an awesome job with both the students and training Reggie. Liz left to further her career as a Veterinarian and do the requirements needed to do so. Erin went out on her own, to be expected. And Alex got hired as a barn manager and Assistant Instructor at a stable that will further her career in Jumping. In their places I hired Savanah who is from Florida and went to Meredith Manor, the American version of the riding school I went to in England... She has such an upbeat positive manner with her students - they all love her! We also brought in Kaitlynn's older sister, Nicole, who I taught lessons to when she was 11 years old. Both of these sisters rode with us when they were kids and the same horses they rode are still here and now they give lessons on them. And finally, I hired an instructor who specializes in working with the young Mommy & Me kids..ages 3 to 5. She has a very nurturing way about her and they feel very confident with her.
We are continuing to offer our FUN WITH HORSES camps offered through the Orangevale Parks and Fair Oaks Parks Departments. Our OWN A HORSE FOR A WEEK camp will be available through us directly. Please be sure to check the changes made on the Summer Camps page.
We have had to increase some of our prices this year...with the minimum wage going up as well as the increase in the price of hay we have had to adjust as well. The rising cost of horse ownership everywhere makes it challenging to continue operating without raising our rates periodically. We will continue to keep our rates competitive and strive to maintain a quality facility with quality instruction.
We aim to provide you with up to date information and facts on lessons, boarding, training, events, and other happenings at the barn and beyond.
We hope you will find it easy to navigate the pages and find the information you need.
